Join Our Kids in Making a Difference!

After discovering what Children's Hopechest is trying to accomplish this year for Christmas, the kids were so excited to brainstorm a way to help. This is their idea! Sydney will introduce it, and then I'll add more of the information.

Have you ever wanted to be a part of making a difference?

We are partnering with Children’s Hopechest to help bring the good news of Jesus to orphans in Russia in a unique way. Over the past few years, the Russian government has worked to greatly restrict the work of Christian organizations, keeping them from helping these kids. Therefore, Children’s Hopechest is pursuing creative strategies to ensure that even with these restrictions, they can still proclaim the love of Jesus to orphans in Russia.

They want to give each child a copy of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. In addition, they want to provide teaching materials and training to the workers to help them use the story effectively to tell of the saving grace of Jesus.

This is where we come in! Here's how:

1. Get a copy of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

2. Use the sponsor sheet to get sponsors for each chapter you read (or your parent reads to you). For example, ask your grandparent if they would give you $1 for each chapter. There are 17 chapters, so if you finish, they would owe you $17.

3. When you finish the book, collect the donations.

4. RSVP with Julie for the Narnia party (Nov. 4)!

5. Celebrate with us on Friday, November 4! We will have a Narnia party at the LeFevre’s.

OUR GOAL: We would love to raise $500. This would cover the cost for almost 17 orphans to receive this gift. We can’t do this on our own, so would you consider joining us?

Just as “Aslan is on the Move” in Narnia, so is God on the move in our world. Wouldn’t it be so fun to be a part of telling kids in Russia about the true “Aslan”?!

For more information on this project, go to http://www.hopechest.org/through-the-winter/.

As a side note, we will celebrate on Nov. 4, the same weekend as Orphan Sunday. What a great way to celebrate! So, let me know if you would like me to send you a sponsor sheet so that you can start reading!

Gotcha Day--A Year Later!

A year ago, Chris and I were in Ethiopia to officially add Isaiah to our family! It was different than I had first anticipated because we had already met Isaiah 7 weeks earlier, but there was just nothing sweeter than seeing his little face come around the corner, arms outstretched. Adopting Isaiah has changed our lives in so many ways. I feel so blessed to have him as my son. It hasn't been all easy, but the process of adding him to our family has been good.

We are going to celebrate thoroughly on Saturday, just because today is a hectic day, but I wanted to acknowledge this very special day in our family. We love you, Isaiah!

Here is our adoption video. Fast-forward to 8 minutes to get to the actual Gotcha Day!

Cowtown with Papa

Papa came to town and took us to Cowtown. I have to admit that it has been years since we have been; I think we had only two kids the last time! The kids had a fabulous time, despite the 100-degree day!Toby and Jackson checking out the guns!
The girls in the schoolhouse.
Ready for class!Isaiah loved the horses!
The kids loved feeling like they were in the "olden days". They really loved the toys in the playground. Adam showed the kids how to do it!
Then they moved on to roping cattle!

We even got to ride in a covered wagon.
Thanks, Papa, for a fun day!

E-Group

A couple of weeks ago, we got to eat Ethiopian food with our other Ethiopia families. Isaiah and Chris weren't huge fans of the food, but it is just because neither of them have ever been fans of Ethiopian food! (When we got Isaiah, he never acted like he enjoyed the injera/wat.) Brenda and Darrel did an excellent job cooking! Oh, and Chris was a huge fan of Chad's ribs! I had fun re-tasting it; it was most fun because it "took me back" to Ethiopia! Sydney and Jackson both liked it--go figure! After eating, we headed to the park. The kids had a fun time playing!
Then it was back to the house for some good ole strawberry pie. Yummy!
We are glad that there are other Ethiopians so close! Thanks, Chad and Brenda, for hosting and giving our kids their first taste of Ethiopian cuisine! :)
